A weathered dune fence runs toward an almost-empty Ditch Plains beach.

a day in montauk to see a friend. i was about to drive home, but i knew i wouldn't be back much that summer, so i kept going, to ditch plains, which i hadn't seen in years. it was serene and quiet, and for a moment it was mine, just before the hamptons summer began.
